Investigative Structural Engineer

Experienced Structural Engineer
Candidate must be technically competent in concrete, steel, masonry, wood, and other structural system design and construction with experience in structural analysis and computer modeling. Work will typically include engineering analysis, monitoring laboratory testing, research, investigation data reduction, developing alternate schemes for solving problems, and repair design.
While project management responsibilities will be commensurate with experience, candidates will assist on all aspects of a project including construction observation, investigations, sample testing, failure diagnosis, and creation of client deliverables. All candidates will assume responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments of varying degrees of complexity (commensurate with experience and competence) with limited oversight.

Master's or PhD degree in Structural Engineering with six years of experience with an engineering firm and expertise in one or more of Companies primary practices
Professional Engineering license in Texas or Structural Engineering license from other states as applicable
Experience in managing small and medium-sized projects
Active in professional organizations
Strong technical and general written and oral communication skills
Strong computer-based structural analysis skills
Strong general computer skills including CAD and Microsoft Office
Ability to work in the field
Ability to travel outside local area, depending on local workload and project location

Typical functions:
Conducts on-site inspection/investigation including survey and documentation of distress, field testing, sampling, photographing, and sketching
Organizes field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving
Analyzes research and investigation data and develop alternate schemes for solving problems
Researches historical background of structure, technical issues, and code issues
Conducts structural computer modeling including finite element analysis
Conducts on-site observations of work in progress and prepares site visit reports using various reporting formats
Prepares baseline drawings, drawings based upon as-built measurements, CAD drawings and specifications
Prepares draft investigation reports, repair sketches, bid documents, addenda, change orders, and other work product
Participates in professional organizations, authors papers, attends conferences, and performs work on technical committees
Performs administrative project requirements including client communications

Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
